Homilies at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish

Why Fr. Michael does not post his homilies

Some have wondered why I do not post my homilies online.  The answer is simple - I have never written my homiilies on paper.  Well, two or three times I think I did for extraordinary reasons - but rarely do I sit and write.  Or type.  Those who worship here know that my homilies are original and from my heart.

Basically, I preach to myself.  I figure I'm the one in need of conversion, hope, uplifting, challenge, teaching, or whatever else might be given by my words on a given Sunday.  So, since I know myself far better than I know anybody else sitting in the Church, it is I to whom I direct my homily.  If it speaks to someone else also, wonderful!

For me, the homily I preach is a one time deal.  They are words I am inspired to share at THIS time, and they are meant to be heard, not read.

I do not use a "homily service", and I never have.  I read and pray the Gospel and readings of the day, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest.  For those who are looking for written homilies, I might recommend you do an internet search - there are a LOT of written homilies out there, and I'm sure you can find some that speak to your heart.

For those who do worship here, I invite you to also read and pray the Gospel and readings of the day, and invite the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts and to speak to your heart.  Perhaps the words I speak to myself will, in some way, speak also to you.

Fr. Michael.
